Amazon Tax Manager, Devices and Services Tax in Seattle, Washington

Do you want to help shape the future of tax planning? Are you interested in working with innovative businesses like Alexa, FireTV and AppStore? Amazon is looking for an experienced, proactive and take ownership International Tax Manager to join the Devices & Services Tax Planning Team.

The position will directly engage with business, tech, finance, and legal teams to support current and future product offerings, expansion and restructurings, as well as provide day-to-day support. The candidate must be comfortable directly liaising with various business teams within the company with an aim of gaining a deep understanding of the business vision and model in order to develop comprehensive tax solutions in support of the business, develop tax requirements that clearly articulate such solutions, and drive the implementation of the tax requirements. This position will handle cross-functional projects, so it is important also to have a background in large scale operational engagements in order to assess impacts and anticipate solutions to expedite launches.

Successful candidates will have experience evaluating issues related to digital businesses. The candidate will also work closely with other members of the global tax department to communicate current and future business plans, obtain cross functional tax subject matter input, and ensure coordination of cross functional tax solutions. This role will operate with a high degree of independence and be expected to collaborate effectively to function as a technical tax advisor and support different tax business leaders.

Key job responsibilities

  • Provide income tax subject matter expertise to various business and IT organizations including Business Development, Marketing, Legal, Accounting, Finance and various product groups

  • Provide end-to-end tax requirements (covering high level structuring through implementation) for projects and new business initiatives

  • Actively participate in projects throughout their lifecycle from planning through delivery

  • Evaluate the tax effect and implications of international business initiatives, contemplated transactions, and business proposals to advise management on the tax implications

  • Collaborate with business units to proactively identify and research international tax planning opportunities

  • Work closely with the tax business leaders to drive projects from a technical perspective

  • Analyze U.S. international tax laws and apply them to various business proposals

  • Analyze foreign tax laws and apply them to various business proposals

  • Monitor industry positions relevant to Amazon’s international business operations

  • Write technical and non-technical tax research and compliance memorandum including detailed tax requirements to be used by various business partners throughout the company.

This position is not directly involved in compliance but will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting the tax leadership group.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience

  • BS/BA degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, or J.D.

  • Ability to successfully lead complex, milestone driven projects – including the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams

  • Understanding of international tax and core federal tax provisions of the Internal Revenue Code and Regulations

  • Able to clearly and concisely interface with non-tax personnel at all levels of management

  • Able to analyze and review statutes, regulations, and case law in the US and abroad, demand excellence from advisors, exercise controllership and make appropriate recommendations.

  • Experience with tax issues related to the digital economy.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $80,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $172,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
