Google Staff Software Engineer, Configuration and Policy Automation in Seattle, Washington

Minimum qualifications:

  • 10 years of professional software development experience or 8 years with a relevant advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering.

  • Experience architecting and developing distributed systems.

  • Experience architecting and developing cloud infrastructure and applications.

  • Experience working in cloud configuration management.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in technical leadership leading project teams and setting technical direction.

  • Experience building services as part of the major cloud provider or similar large scale distributed infrastructure.

  • Experience building dev/devops/admin tools, such as configuration management.

  • Experience with open source.

  • Experience with Kubernetes.

  • Passion for building products, tools, and platforms for large and diverse categories of customers.

The Configuration and Policy Automation (CPA) team is looking for an experienced engineer to help define and build the next generation of cloud configuration management products based on the cloud native principles underlying Kubernetes. We aim to bring an excellent cloud configuration and policy management experience by applying Kubernetes-style declarative APIs and tooling across all cloud resources, not only in-cluster but also traditional Google Cloud Platform (GCP) as well as hybrid and multi-cloud. This is an opportunity to get in on the ground level of a new Google Cloud strategic initiative. The role will offer ample chance for deep technical work, impact on next generation GCP flagship product, direct customer engagement, collaboration with multiple Google Cloud teams, and direct contribution to key strategic initiatives such as Anthos and Google Kubernetes Engine.

  • Lead the technical direction for CPA products in collaboration with the CPA and partner teams.

  • Help shape the technical and product direction for Google Cloud Platform, Anthos, and Kubernetes manageability tools.

  • Help shape the future of Kubernetes resource management.

  • Design and implement key components of our configuration and policy management products.

  • Mentor engineers in the team and help shape the culture of the team.
