Translation Services org is one the growing organizations across Amazon that solve complex problems on a global scale for our distributed customers worldwide. Our team is responsible for creating the best translation experience for customers. As a Sr. Software Developer within the Translation Services (TS) org, you will contribute to the next generation applications to power fast, fluid, and interactive experiences for our linguists worldwide.
Software engineers within TS Org have a diverse range of skills and talents and we can’t wait to harness your passion to make us an even stronger team. We help teams across Amazon and AWS to discover and explore new ways to get the translations for their pages in a quicker, efficient, and cost effective ways. We think in terms of frameworks not features; stability, scaling, and performance over using technology to solve discrete problems.
About you:
A Senior SDE within TS org has strong experience in designing and developing scalable high-performance systems and services that are flexible, reliable, and maintainable. They need excellent problem-solving skills, a solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, and a customer-focused mindset. They take a pragmatic and iterative approach to build software with an ability to simplify and get things done with a demonstrated track record of building and delivering software and working effectively with external and internal teams. Senior SDEs will build services to handle billions of requests per day while maintaining response latencies in milliseconds and meeting strict SLA requirements. Senior SDEs on the team will drive quantifiable revenue impact, broaden their technical skills and work in an environment that thrives on creativity, experimentation, deep-dive, and product innovation. Senior SDEs in TS org focus on the ambiguous problem areas in existing or new software initiatives and have a long-term view of the team’s software and how it fits into the architecture.

We're working on a mission that language should not be a barrier for customers worldwide to access information within Amazon and AWS. Amazon Translation Management System (ATMS) is a two-sided ecosystem where on one-side, customers across Amazon and AWS submit their projects to translate a set of words from one source language to multiple target languages and on the other side we manage hundreds of linguist customers to perform the translations for these projects. Our goal is to provide high quality translations in efficient, cost effective and timely manner and at the same time, provide best in class customer experience to our linguist customer who performs the translations.

Basic Qualifications
5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
