Amazon Sr. Business Intelligence Engineer, GTMC - Modeling, Analytics, and Research Science in Seattle, Washington

GTMC is seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) who is passionate about using data to drive critical business decisions for senior leadership. As a BIE you will be delivering data insights and deep diving novel questions to give our leaders access to data that is timely, accurate, and actionable. You will also partner with senior leaders throughout Amazon to drive insights, align scalable metrics, and track measurable results. Leveraging your passion for data, you will help create key analytical frameworks for our internal customers and business partners to utilize.

Key job responsibilities

• Conduct time-sensitive detailed data driven analyses to uncover DEI business trends or drivers of changes in the DEI metrics.

• Utilize database technologies to design, develop, and evaluate analyses and innovative business intelligence tools and reporting.

• Perform DEI-specific data extracts and build data pipelines to develop reports and dashboards.

• Create scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation, and model implementation.

• Lead projects or components from start to finish including project management, data gathering and manipulation, synthesis and modeling, problem solving, and communication of insights and recommendations.

• Build business intelligence (BI) solutions – data sets, queries, reports, dashboards, analyses – or components of larger solutions to answer business questions with data.

• Troubleshoot data, analyses, and code, research root causes, propose solutions, and take ownership in next steps for their resolutions.

About the team

The GTMC Modeling Analytics Research Science (MARS) team leads reporting on Amazonians for the Senior Team leadership, the Amazon Board, and external/public reporting. The team responds to Senior Team questions on all employees for regular reporting and topical deep dives. This work requires precise data accuracy with results that align across mechanisms and reporting, and scales for leaders to self-serve. We require robust data infrastructure and business intelligence capabilities that enable critical visibility into workforce representation, diversity indicators, and retention risks across the employee lifecycle. We work to identify new metrics to answer new questions at scale for evolving populations and business problems to drive workplace decisions for leaders.

Key job responsibilities

  • Collaborate with IXT leaders on deep dive topics and reporting

  • Lead the integration of new Self ID data to IXT reporting

  • Deliver external diversity reporting for Amazon.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional or military experience

  • 5+ years of SQL experience

  • Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets

  • Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results

  • Experience with AWS technologies

  • Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.

  • Experience with theory and practice of information retrieval, data science, machine learning and data mining

  • Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership

  • Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $117,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $202,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
