The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Specimen Processing Supervisor .
WORK SCHEDULE
100% FTE (40 hours per week)
First Shift DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION A regional resource for clinical laboratory services required for innovative patient care, research and educational programs, the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology combines the sophisticated testing and informatics capabilities of fully accredited laboratories with the resources of an academic institution in its delivery of clinical and anatomic pathology services. Evaluates employee performance and do annual performance evaluations.
Plans additional/remedial training policies and procedures
Comply with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies
Participate in all aspects of the hiring process
Schedules and supervises the overall operation of a 7 day/week, 24 hour/day Specimen Processing Services (SPS)
Accurately manages timekeeping and approval responsibilities of employee time cards using web-based or local software programs to include but not limited to leave requests, overtime, schedules, attendance, etc.
Supervises detection and correction of errors by monitoring and reviewing by using HC1 or any other feedback mechanism provided.
Troubleshoots and reports on issues or concerns from other laboratory divisions or hospital staff through hc1 or other reporting mechanisms, e.g., Quality Improvement tracking, Incident Reports, or Patient Safety Network (PSN).
Audits deletion of patients charges
Works with Warehouse Worker2 for appropriate inventories and establishes levels of Phlebotomy and Specimen Processing Services (SPS) supplies
Responsible for preventive maintenance on SPSA equipment
Works with leadership to review and update procedures, policies, and job aid in Media Lab.
Participate in inspections and surveys, including but not limited to CAP (College of American Pathologist), JCAHO (Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Hospital Organizations) and DOH (Department of Health)
Support service and Lab Medicine goals, service efficiency, and effectiveness through such activities as: participating in problem-solving, demonstrating support for policies, sharing expertise, and contributing to project work and committees
With Manager input, develop goals and objectives; work with staff to achieve the objectives
Perform corrective action to include but not limited to investigation, follow up, etc as needed on violations of procedure and policies in a timely manner
Ensure employee competencies and certifications are up to date
Acts on staff performance to meets the standard and immediately address issues
Assist in gathering information in preparation of budget
May prepare costs analyses of equipment and procedures
Regularly communicates with staff individually and in groups through in-person rounding
Meets with hospital staff to resolve issues
Maintains professional and ethical behavior as a role model to staff REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of college-level science in an applicable field AND one year of experience as a Specimen Processing Technician LeadOR
High School graduation or GED Certification AND two years of clinical laboratory experience in a Clinical or Public Health LaboratoryOR
Equivalent education/experience. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
May be required to work in other departmental locations in order to meet patient service requirements, including but not limited to UWMC, HMC, CHRMC, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, SCCA, Roosevelt, Rosen, etc.
May be required to work weekends and holidays
