Amazon Software Development Engineer, Tax Services in Seattle, Washington

Description

Amazon’s Tax Services calculate sales taxes and create tax invoices for Amazon businesses including digital goods, physical stores, retail, advertising and third-party sales. Amazon already operates beyond the scope of any existing tax calculation system in the world. Amazon’s continued growth and expansion to every country and line of business depends on the flexibility of its tax software to rapidly handle any new tax regulation that legislators can conceive and guarantee it is always calculating sales taxes correctly. We also own the lifecycle for tax exemption, and we own workflows and services for the validation of tax registration numbers that governments assign to sellers, businesses and vendors.

Amazon’s global retail business depends on our systems, and if our systems are not up and running, the company stops. We balance keeping our systems fast, scalable and performant while rapidly delivering great features for Amazon customers and businesses, and for our internal legal, finance and accounting groups. In short, we get to own and innovate on a critical customer experience while also supporting nearly every other business at the company; the best of both worlds!

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to all parts of the software development and deployment life-cycle, including design, development, documentation, testing and operations. They must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, be self-driven and deliver high quality results in a fast paced environment. They need to enjoy working closely with their peers in a high-performing group of very smart and talented engineers.

The ideal candidate has a range of experience solving different engineering problems across the full tech stack.
