Blue Origin LLC Senior Embedded Software Engineer - New Shepard in Seattle, Washington

New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space. As part of a small, hard-working and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for designing, building and continuously improving New Shepard's avionics software stack. Your role will focus on design, development, integration and testing efforts of this safety-critical system. This is a hands-on role and will require active participation throughout the development life-cycle. The ideal candidate will quickly achieve a high level of proficiency in the system / software architecture as well as Blue Origin's engineering process. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and requires your dedicated dedication and detailed attention toward safe and repeatable spaceflight. Responsibilities Work on the BSP, drivers, middleware, build our own real-time OS and application software for New Shepard avionics equipment. Develop tools supporting development and testing of our avionics system. Participate in all software creation process activities including requirements, architecture, design, implementation, and testing. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of electrical, mechanical, aerospace and systems engineers. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of a B.S. degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field 8+ years of hands-on experience developing and testing real-time embedded systems, including bare metal, RTOS, or Linux kernel experience (preferably some experience in requirements based, safety-critical, fault-tolerant systems). Sophisticated software development skills, particularly in C/C++ & Python Experience with Linux device driver software development Expertise in Linux Kernel development Experience with and understanding of serial communication protocols such as CAN bus, RS422, and networking protocols (TCP/IP/UDP) Strong debugging skills at the software/hardware boundary Preferred Qualifications Master's degree (or higher) in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field Experience with building real-time Linux OS with Yocto Experience with device driver software development Experience in design, development, and testing of real-time embedded safety-critical software systems in compliance with DO-178C or equivalent.
