The role at a glance: NBBJ Digital seeks an experienced Senior Database Developer to lead and support the SQL Server Database Environment and supporting Technical Operations Teams. The Senior Database Developer will ensure the backups and environment stability and the functions and technical support is provided, and NBBJ staff are trained in technology. The ideal candidate for this role is highly collaborative, has excellent communication skills, has a drive for analytics and database development, and has strong project and time management experience. This role will report to the Technical Operations Manager, located out of our Columbus, Ohio office. In your new role you will:

  • Develop and maintain a strong collaborative and trusting relationship with the Digital team and business partners
  • Demonstrate behaviors which are aligned with NBBJ's desired culture and values
  • Partner with application developers to design, develop, test, implement, and support database applications
  • Manage imports and exports of data to and from third party vendors
  • Build informative and appealing reports and dashboards with SQL Server Reporting Services and Power BI
  • Document database design, configurations, and procedures to ensure knowledge sharing and continuity
  • Analyze existing database systems and make recommendations to improve performance and functionality

What you will need to succeed: At least 10 years of relevant experience in a mid-sized multi-location environment in the following areas: Database Administration Skills Required:

  • Proficiency in DBMS platform (Microsoft SQL Server)
  • Skills in optimizing database performance through indexing, query optimization, and configuration adjustments.
  • Ability to analyze execution plans and diagnose performance bottlenecks.
  • Backup and Recovery strategies - Familiarity with tools and techniques for database backup, restoration, and disaster recovery.
  • Security - Understanding of database security best practices, including user authentication, authorization, encryption, and auditing.
  • High Availability and Disaster Recovery
  • Database Monitoring and Maintenance
  • Scripting and Automation - Ability to write scripts in languages like PowerShell
  • Compliance and Auditing - Familiarity with data governance, compliance standards, and auditing requirements

Database Development Skills Required:

SQL Programming - Proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers

Database Design and Modeling - Skills in designing and modeling relational and non-relational database schemas

Data Integration and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) - Experience in designing and implementing ETL processes to move and transform data between systems

Data Migration - Expertise in developing scripts and processes for data migration between different databases or formats

Testing and Debugging - Proficiency in testing database components for functionality, performance, and security

Reporting and Power BI - Experience in developing complex queries and reports to provide insights and support decision-making
