Port of Seattle Resident Engineer I (Seaport) in Seattle, Washington

Some of what you'll be doing:

In this role you will assist Resident Engineers in the construction phase of all major construction projects at the Port of Seattle.

  • You will support and assist Resident Engineers with administering construction contracts by monitoring and reviewing the contractors’ work for compliance with plans, specifications, and schedules.

  • You will coordinate special inspections, conduct, or witness project testing, establish, and maintain construction photographs, logs, and other monitoring records.

  • You will monitor quality control requirements, issue non-conformance reports to contractor for corrections.

  • You will support construction management activities by participating in or conduction planning, preconstruction, coordination, progress scheduling and field staff meetings.

  • You will assist with project documentation including inspector’s daily reports, construction bulletins, design change notifications, on conformance reports and other construction related records.

  • You will review plans and specifications to update appropriate RFI, trend, submittal and change order logs, make field measurements, and maintain as built and red-lined drawing records.

  • You will manage construction contingency budget on small to moderate size construction projects, assist with management on larger more complex projects.

  • You will review and evaluate contractor pay requests, change order requests to ensure compliance with Port’s policies and applicable laws and regulations to negotiate routine change order requests.

Who you are:

  • Experienced – You have two (2) years of construction project management experience including inspection, cost estimating and scheduling.

  • Educated – You possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.

  • Desired – We hope you have a Professional Engineer in Training (EIT), or you are a Professional Engineer (PE) and have knowledge in public government contracting processes and procedures.

  • Collaborator – You demonstrated ability to effectively interact with Port executive leaders; project stakeholders; Commission; local, federal, and state officials; and the general public to present and explain program information. You are able to proactively respond to and resolve highly politically sensitive or controversial issues.

  • Leadership – You're able to provide sound judgment and help create and lead successful solutions, while managing through conflict, change and a variety of leadership styles and priorities.

  • Effective Communicator - You are very skilled in both verbal and written communication techniques and can effectively work with clients at all levels of the organization.

What else you need to know:

  • Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.

  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.

  • Work Environment – You will generally work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and/or in confined spaces.

  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.

  • Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.

  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.
