The Department of Medicine’s Division of Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology & Nutrition has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary , Part-Time Research Scientist/Engineer Assistant in the Crisa laboratory.

The Research Scientist/Engineer Assistant will support studies performed and conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Laura Crisa at the University of Washington South Lake Union campus. The field of research this position is engaged in is Pancreatic islet regeneration and diabetes.

Major Duties and Responsibilities Experiment and Assay Development (40%)

Assist with the preparation of genomic DNA, RNA and cDNA and real time PCR.

Apply molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, qPCR) to identify gene signatures in experimental and control cellular samples.

Assist with protein extraction, pull-down assays and protein gel electrophoresis.

Execute ELISA and metabolic assays.

Animal work (30%)

Mice work: tagging, tailing and genotyping.

Handling, breeding and monitoring mice.

Tissue Processing and Cell culture (20%)

Perform immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence techniques.

Perform standard sterile tissue culture techniques.

Other Duties (10%)

Administrative duties including but not limited to purchasing, maintaining inventory, data entry, and filing.

Keep careful and accurate laboratory records.

Maintain laboratory equipment and consumable restocking.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in science or related field and less than 1 Year relevant work experience OR Equivalent combination of education/experience.

Specific knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job satisfactorily include: College-level knowledge of biology and physiology concepts. Must be willing to work with mice.

Knowledge, skills and abilities that are desirable, providing for an enhanced level of job performance, include: Proficiency in science- and mathematic-related knowledge.
