Amazon Quality Assurance Engineer, DC Design Engineering in Seattle, Washington

Description

The purpose of this role is to oversee and perform quality assurance and quality control reviews, track, and manage design drawings, specifications and documents prepared during the engineering design process in order to ensure regulatory, legal, and security compliance. You will work alongside internal partner teams such as Engineering, Power and Cooling (PAC), Security, Controls, and Commissioning to build Data Centers that directly support our customers to resolve quality and process issues. You will also communicate with external stakeholder design consultants.

The Quality Engineer, need to have a positive attitude, knowledge of the commercial industry design and construction process, experience reviewing technical and contractual documentation, and strong communication skills. You will deep dive documentation for completeness, update and create procedures to optimize workflows, ensure data accuracy and look for improvement opportunities.

The Quality Engineer will manage the intake of design consultant documentation and data, review documentation for quality compliance and completeness, and update stakeholders with progress of the final workflow documentation processing. The Quality Engineer should expect high volumes for documentation, and will need to exercise strong judgement on how to communicate and engage stakeholders through various tools.

Effective May 15, 2017, logical access to the AWS GovCloud region will be restricted to Amazon employees who are U.S. Citizens. (GovCloud may NOT be accessed from outside of the United States)". This role will directly support GovCloud information and requires U.S. citizenship.

Key job responsibilities

o Independently manage one or multiple project clusters’ documentation and administers the workflows where you engage with the correct stakeholders across the organization to raise the bar in the quality and the coherence of the content of the package provided. Perform quality review of technical documentation for accuracy and contract compliance.

o Serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for other Quality Engineers process clarifications needs and decision making as required.

o Provide coordination and guidance of all engineering and architectural specifications, design drawings, and permit submittals for projects.

o Support the design managers to prepare complete and accurate documentation at various design phases and during construction handoff, including but not limited to drawings, specifications, bill of materials, calculations, etc.

o Manages project archiving, tracking, processing and filing activities, assist in naming standard, versioning schema, etc.

o Provides training initiatives for our internal and external partners, and provide tactical support.

o Prepare ad hoc reports on project’s progress, Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and progress tracking.

o Manages and executes the vision and goals for the team. Independently works on process improvement initiative and new mechanism development efforts and sees these to completion including among others: requirements gatherings, paper writing and presentation, approval, technical system development, UAT, implementation, training, user support and data analysis.

o Collaborate with technical teams in a fast-paced environment with showed ability to edit and raise the bar on high-quality technical documentation

o System Analyst/Configuration Owner of Smartsheet and other systems development as required.

o Responsible for leading and driving process improvements (short-term wins) as well as process design / redesign (long-term wins) efforts

o Manage a portfolio of projects in an assigned region

o Manage the business metrics reporting process and support ad hoc reporting requests

o Own design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, and support ad hoc reporting requests

o Maintain confidentiality around sensitive documentation

o Attend team meetings and communicate updates or requirements

o Conduct audits to ensure processes are being followed

o Up to 25% travel may be required

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or architecture, or 4+ years’ experience as a project engineer for large commercial design and construction projects

4+years of experience in the design or construction industry

2+ year SQL, Phyton or data analytics experience.

Preferred Qualifications

o Experience working with collaborative management systems

o Attention-to-detail including proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously

o Experience in Salesforce, BIM, Procore, SharePoint is a plus. Experience with design and/or construction management software including Autodesk BIM360, Bluebeam, and Procore

o Knowledge of the scope and design/construction life cycle sequencing of project schedules

o Experience with managing documents in various types of office software

o Engineering Data Center Experience

o Organizational, analytical, and writing skills, to include solid experience in writing functional and technical specifications

o Able to read and interpret specifications and drawings for all disciplines

o Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $87,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
