REI Product Compliance Manager in Seattle, Washington

Overview

The Product Compliance Manager contributes to REI’s success by developing and driving an integrated product compliance management program. This role is responsible to track emerging legislation, translating regulatory requirements into formal business processes with clear roles and responsibilities across teams. This leader will work across teams to maintain continuous adherence and actively engages to lead across functions to respond to any immediate regulatory and or safety risk found.

The scope of the role includes developing the product compliance function, leading and supporting the integration of regulatory requirements and product safety into business processes to minimize business risk, and ensuring full compliance with all rules and regulations and company strategic initiatives relative to product compliance. Key compliance topics include product safety, product traceability, international human rights monitoring, chemical compliance, validation of marketing claims, and building program performance standards. This role actively leads cross functional teams to ensure timely and appropriate responses as well as actions regarding compliance and or safety issues as they arise.

Operating as part of REI’s Supply Operations team, this highly integrated role will work with every division through the value chain to ensure they have the proper knowledge, training and internal processes to adhere to requirements and reduce enterprise risk. The candidate will also contribute expertise to a larger compliance community of practice across the co-op, modeling and fostering best in class practices.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Track emerging compliance legislation in all jurisdictions in which REI operates, nationally and internationally.

  • Researching and analyzing new issues in the business landscape that currently, or could have future impacts on, product compliance and engage cross-divisional partners in advanced preparation.

  • Drive implementation of new laws and compliance processes within REI, including leading meetings, documenting progress and follow-up on questions, utilizing project management skills.

  • Develop a risk-based prioritization for action to enable speed in decision making in close partnership with cross-divisional stakeholders.   .

  • Co-developing processes, roles, and accountabilities to ensure cross-divisional adherence to legislation.

  • Creating standardized manuals and delivering training and automated processes for ongoing compliance management.

  • Establish processes for local, state, and federal reporting requirements, ensuring reporting is timely and accurate.

  • Lead organizational action and communication regarding active regulatory and safety issues engaging key cross-divisional partners.

  • Key contact point to manage communication and relationships with US Consumer Product Safety Commission, Federal Trade Commission and others in support of compliance matters.

  • Coordinate with Trade Compliance team on CTPAT, UFLPA and other trade and customs requirements.

  • Establish performance criteria to measure product compliance adherence

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in a closely related business role.

  • Ability to identify and assess risks and escalate issues to in-house attorney, as needed.

  • Product compliance related training or certificates with demonstrable knowledge and skills for the role

  • High level of character and personal integrity

  • Ability to build open, trusting, and honest relationships, effectively influencing a wide range of people

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and work streams to meet critical, short-term deadlines.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, sound judgment, thorough, and accurate with excellent attention to detail.

  • Interest in leveraging technology for efficiency in operations. Familiarity with MS Office, Legal Tracker, ServiceNow and iManage is a plus.

  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment and uphold the highest standards of discretion and confidentiality.

Pay Range

$96,400.00 - $140,300.00 per year
