Key job responsibilities

As a Principal Applied Scientist at the intersection of machine learning and life sciences. You will partner with science and engineering leaders to set up the tech strategy and vision. You will lead and participate in developing exciting products for customers. You will interact closely with the academic and research communities. You will mentor junior and senior scientists and work on cross-disciplinary efforts with other scientists within Amazon. Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant, broad research experience after PhD degree or equivalent

  • Proven track record in building complex solutions in ambiguous environments

  • 10+ years of relevant, broad engineering experience required

  • Proven track record programming in Java, C++, Python or related language

  • Proven track record with neural deep learning methods and machine learning

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.

  • Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.

  • Publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals

  • Experience delivering complex end-to-end ML solutions

  • Experience working with real-world data sets and building scalable models from big data

  • Thinks strategically and staying on top of tactical execution.

  • Exhibits excellent business judgment and understanding of science, engineering, and business trade-offs

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $159,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $309,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
