Husky Health Center at the University of Washington, has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Medical Assistant (MA) (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv). Under general supervision, the MA assists Husky Health providers in the direct care and treatment of ambulatory patients in a clinic setting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Room patients, take vital signs, and reconcile records

  • Perform injections

  • Prepare, stock, and clean exam rooms and equipment (diaphragms, cryotips, etc)

  • Recognize symptoms of common medical illnesses and accurately report to provider

  • Act as a liaison between patient, patient’s family and providers

  • Assist provider with procedures and medical exams

  • Perform point of care testing and report abnormal laboratory values

  • Assist in transporting patients in Husky Health and to ER as required

  • Perform audiograms, tympanograms, visual acuity, EKG and spirometry tests

  • Fit patient with DME and ensure necessary paperwork is completed

  • Package lab specimens and deliver them to the Lab Dept

  • Follow-up with patients regarding lab results, with guidance from providers

  • Responsible for prescription refills, and following established department refill protocols.

  • Perform other related duties as required DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Recent experience providing direct patient care in an ambulatory or emergency medicine department/acute care setting

  • Demonstrates knowledge of normal versus abnormal clinical events and findings

  • Knowledge of current infection control standards and practices

  • Excellent communicates, organization and customer service skills

  • Able to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams

  • Able and willing to work flexible schedule to maintain high level of service

  • Experience working with a diverse student population

  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems, preferably EPIC

  • Familiarity with sports medicine outpatient clinical care

  • Familiarity with front offices processes such as registration, clinic check-in and scheduling of appointments

  • Contribute to Quality Management and other HHC programs

  • Comply with privacy and confidentiality rules as required by State and Federal laws

  • Demonstrates behaviors that support the UW Medicine “Patient's Are First Service” Guidelines MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board;

  • OR equivalent education/experience. LEGAL REQUIREMENT

  • Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation during the probationary period. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in the termination of employment
