Blue Origin LLC Materials and Process Engineer III - Repair Process Development in Seattle, Washington

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of expert M&P (materials and process) engineers and technicians, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of coating, plating, cladding, and welding/joining processes used in the manufacture and repair of liquid rocket engine hardware. You'll be expected to develop, qualify, document, and continuously improve these processes to ensure design and manufacturing requirements are met. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Responsibilities: Challenge the status quo by identifying, developing, and implementing process improvements to drive reductions in cost and processing time while maintaining design intent and quality. Work hands on with processes such as welding, coating, cladding, plating, and heat treatment to develop robust processing parameters and approaches. Collaborate closely with design, analysis, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and supply base to disposition nonconforming hardware. Identify root causes of nonconforming hardware and work proactively to identify and implement corrective and preventative actions including repair of components for return to service. Interpret production drawings systematically, understanding the need for processes to meet established requirements. Define and author material and/or process development and qualification plans in order to utilize novel materials and processes on liquid rocket engine hardware. Train and empower production employees in manufacturing and developed repair techniques. Promote and build a positive working relationship with hourly team members. Qualifications: 5+ years directly related welding and joining experience. Minimum B.S. in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Hands on experience operating and supporting processing equipment such as heat treat furnaces, industrial robots, lasers, welding equipment, thermal spray, and cold spray systems. Proven experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of special processes. Experience writing and maintaining materials and process specifications and/or work instructions. Experience with automation and/or mechanization of processes. Familiarity with standard methods of manufacturing, such as conventional machining, non-conventional machining, and inspections. Experience interpreting NDT/NDE results (such as UT, RT, PT). Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or law
