This role contributes to Starbucks success by providing leadership and transportation expertise for the North America Middle and Final Miles of Transportation functions, reporting to the Vice President, Global Transportation. This position is responsible to develop best in class operating practices, standard business processes, innovative technologies, and performance tools. This position will manage both performance and cost by developing plans and implementing solutions that ensure achievement of operating targets. This individual will model and act in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles, mission, and values.
As a Director of Outbound Transportation, you will…
Manage domestic outbound transportation (middle and final mile) operations- which comprises of full truck load, less than truck load, small parcel, for ambient and temp controlled shipments, with both dedicated and one-way solutions.
Deploy innovative solutions to ensure Starbucks consistently meets its service metrics to stores (on time delivery) and cost to serve low.
Own relationship with 3 rd party carriers and 3PLs and be a subject matter expert on flow of products and drive end to end efficiencies.
We’d love to hear from people with:
8 -10 years of direct leadership experience in transportation operations management, transportation planning systems, handling dynamic and diverse product SKU’s that require accurate, on-time, and damage free deliveries.
Prior experience managing store delivery network in large and complex operations, preferably from food and beverage manufacturing/distribution, restaurant business with high store count and frequent delivery models; or from 3PLs/carriers who are supporting large network shippers. This experience is a must have.
Final mile direct to consumer experience in the food/beverage industry will be preferred.
Analytical, leadership, self-starter, ability to work independently and ability to influence others.
Both strategic (having a network view) and tactical (day to day execution) in approach.
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Finance or Engineering
Expertise in transportation sourcing, procurement, and contract management.
Experience managing third party transportation providers.
Collaborative, mature, and motivating leadership with a natural drive for results within a complex supply chain model.
Analytical and strategic planning skills. Ability to work in a fast paced, innovative operating environment. Ability to simplify complexity. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Computer proficiency with all Microsoft applications.
Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, Food Safety Regulations and compliance

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
