The PeopleInsight (PI) team is the driving force behind four customer-facing products (Clarity, Engage, Connections, and Shout-Outs), as well as a comprehensive people data store collating information from over 60 Amazon systems. Our mission is clear: to harness the power of people data and empower PXT and people leaders to make decisions that steer Amazon towards its goal of becoming Earth’s Best Employer. We specialize in building features that streamline data gathering and analysis for PXT users, freeing up more time for action and removing barriers for Amazonians.

We are currently seeking a talented and motivated data engineer to lead the design, development, and testing of data pipelines and a centralized data store for people metrics data. Within the PI data services team, you will champion frameworks that empower our internal customers to seamlessly create data pipelines and ETL workflows. The ideal candidate possesses a robust understanding of data modeling concepts, complemented by a foundational grasp of Data Structures. Continual acquisition of expertise, iterative approaches, and adaptability are key facets of this role. Key job responsibilities

  • Design and build business critical, highly available data pipelines in a stable, low cost model.

  • Prototype and test concepts in technology and use case intersection to propose designs in Data Engineering, Business Intelligence and Data Science space.

  • Design software with quality, robustness and Amazon sized scale as top priorities.

  • Internalize our customer challenges and derive creative solutions which apply new and innovative technology.

  • Work directly with customers to integrate new data types, equipment, and incorporate feedback.

  • Help continually improve ongoing reporting and analysis processes, automating or simplifying self-service support for customers.

  • Apply software best practices including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, agile development, build processes, and testing.

  • Actively support and foster a culture of inclusion.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of data engineering experience

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • 2+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc.

  • 1+ years of experience with at least one of the modern programming language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Go-lang, JS, Ruby.

  • Experience working on and delivering end to end projects independently.

  • Basic knowledge of distributed systems as it pertains to data storage and computing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions

  • Experience with non-relational databases / data stores (object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, column-family databases)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
