Amazon Business Intelligence Engineer, Core Shopping Analytics in Seattle, Washington

Description

The Purchase Experience and Ordering team helps customers discover and select the best items, services, and delivery options tailored to their unique location. We help our customers build their baskets, get orders to the right place, and provide critical details to make informed purchase decisions as they check out and complete their purchase. We own services from adding offers to a shopping cart, proceeding to checkout, tracking order execution and fulfillment, and processing returns and refunds. As a Business Intelligence Engineer in Core Shopping Analytics, you will own the analytics charter for the Purchase Experience team to support innovation at Address Experience and Checkout Pages.

Key job responsibilities

You are an Analytics subject matter expert on the Purchase Experience and Upsell, experiences that are essential to the final stages of customer purchase decisions and the actual purchase experience itself. You will own core datasets to understand how customers build their cart, purchase, and confirm their order. Collaborating with Product Managers and Engineers, you will develop a framework to understand the levers that drive a successful experience. You will deliver in-depth analysis and recommendations to drive the product roadmap and to input into company-wide systems, generating incremental business value. As the chief evangelist, you will drive adoption of your dataset and mental model across the Consumer organization.

A day in the life

We build in 5-week Sprints with a 1 week for planning and 4 weeks for execution. Planning Week is used to groom the backlog and to scope & prioritize projects. We reserve the Friday of every Planning Week for a self-directed Learning Day. Over the 4 Execution Weeks, we have regular stand-ups and a mid-sprint demo. Projects will vary sprint to sprint among building derived/aggregate datasets, conducting analysis, and pushing learnings to customers.

About the team

Core Shopping Analytics elevates the shopping experience for every customer through data and analytics. We do this by: 1) publishing comprehensive, broadly accessible datasets that reflect the customer experience across the shopping journey; 2) creating tools for Builders across Amazon to consume this data; and 3) identifying opportunities and actionable insights to improve the experiences and systems. The 14+ person team includes Data Engineers, Business Intelligence Engineers and Data Scientists.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience

  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • Experience in analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc.

  • Experience writing complex SQL queries

  • Experience developing and presenting recommendations of new metrics allowing better understanding of the performance of the business

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift

  • Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $79,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
