Schoharie County Department of Social Services Casework Assistant (H.E.L.P.) in Schoharie, New York

NY1504092 CASEWORK ASSISTANT (NY HELPS) Starting Salary: $35,663 (CSEA grade 8)

This position involves paraprofessional functions in a social service agency, in support of Adult Service, Preventive, and/or Foster Care Casework staff in the implementation of programs and delivery of services to clients. The purpose of this class is to relieve the professional staff of duties that can be performed at a less-skilled level. Duties are carried out under direct supervision of casework supervisors. Does related work as required.

*The Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program temporarily removes the civil service exam requirement for this position. Employees hired under the HELP Program will be appointed on a permanent basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (A)Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State-registered college or university with an associate degree in Human Services, Psychology, Education or a closely related field; OR

(B)Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; and two (2) years of experience in the human services field or a clerical position.

NOTE: Part-time employment can be pro-rated to count towards full-time (based on number of hours worked per week) and a higher level of education can be pro-rated for experience up to one year.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: This class requires extensive travel. Incumbents will be required to possess a valid New York State Motor Vehicle Operators license, or otherwise demonstrate the ability to meet the travel needs of the job.
