       This is a contracted position that works up to 29 hours a week and no benefits are offeredPosition Definition: ADriver’s Education Instructoris responsible for providing behind-the-wheel instruction to students in an effort to prepare competent, skillful, and responsible drivers who will have the right attitude toward safe driving and will, therefore, assist in reducing accidents on the streets and highways. Relationship: TheDriver’s Education Instructorshall be directly responsible to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction/Educational Technologies. Qualifications: Education/Experience:

  • A valid PA Driver’s License is required for behind the wheel instructors

  • A Driver’s License check certification and release form must be completed

  • A valid Pennsylvania Driver’s Education Teaching Certification

    Skills/Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the classroom curriculum for class D motor vehicles

  • Ability to identify and apply current state law and regulations applicable to the ownership and operation of a class D vehicle

  • Organization of lessons and preparation to conduct classroom instruction

  • Ability to maintain a learning environment and management of a class

  • Ability to assess, monitor and adjust performance as necessary

  • Time management

  • Record keeping in compliance

  • Written communication skills

  • Ability to contact first aid resources in the event of an emergency

  • Oral instruction presentation and delivery techniques

  • Ability to use visual aids and technical apparatus pertinent to the program’s curriculum

  • Completion of team teaching with a qualified instructor

  • Technology skills needed to operate appropriate student information system

    Physical:

  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, communicate (vision, hearing, and speech), carry or convey sufficient weight to safely and effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities.

  • Ability to independently ambulate in and around work areas.

  • Ability to travel to and from assigned work locations without employer support.

  • Ability to exhibit appropriate manual dexterity to effectively carry out function, duties, and responsibilities.

  • Speaking and hearing ability appropriate to communicate effectively by phone or in person with targeted audience.

    Authority: TheDriver’s Education Instructorwill have the authority to perform all functions listed below in accordance with established policies and procedures. Functions/Duties/Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function/duty/responsibility at acceptable standards. In accordance with both state and/or federal law, reasonable accommodations will be considered upon employee request. Essential:

  • Prepare lessons tailored to students’ needs

  • Provide behind-the-wheel driving lessons for students which cover parts and functions of a vehicle, on-road regulations, safety procedures, technical aspects, and additional topics as detailed in the CLIU Driver’s Education Handbook

  • Evaluate and document student progress and provide feedback

  • Communicate with clients or students’ parents as needed

  • Helping students to develop confidence in their driving skills and guiding them to remain calm during stressful situations

  • Gain control of the vehicle during emergency situations

  • Reporting concerns and incidents to Curriculum and Instruction contact as deemed appropriate
