Job Description
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Under the supervision of the Director of Athletics, the Athletic Trainer will be responsible for coordinating wellness opportunities for students and staff, including but not limited to; AED, CPR & First Aid training for staff and students, organizing and coordinating wellness fairs, classes and events for staff, students and the community before, during and after the school day. The Athletic Trainer will also serve as the certified athletic trainer for the district athletic programs. Additional responsibilities include communicating with coaches regarding player injury status and practice limitations; assisting coaches with preparation of incident reports; maintaining inventory of medical supplies. Does related work as required or as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Coordinate district wellness opportunities for students and staff, including but not limited to:
AED, CPR and First Aid training for staff, and students;
Organizing wellness fairs classes, classes and events for staff, students and the community both before and after the school day;
Responsible for knowing the day to day athletic facilities calendar;
Maintain equipment and medical inventories, supplies, and related items;
Prepare and maintain first aid kits for use by coaches of all teams;
Assist coaches with preparation of incident reports;
Assist the Director of Athletics and/or coaches with any pre or post game needs; health and wellness needs of scholar athletes
Assist with securing facility when contests are complete;
Administer post-injury and post-operative rehabilitation protocols for injured student athletes;
Communicate with coaches regarding player injury status and practice limitations, and communicate with staff on return to school protocols for injured student-athletes;
Coordinate ambulance or medical personnel if necessary;
Assist in developing and/or revising appropriate policies, handbooks, and other athletic/wellness communications; and
Does related work as required or assigned by the Director of Athletics.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Comprehensive knowledge of athletic training skills;
Working knowledge of health/wellness as well as the inter-workings of interscholastic athletics;
Ability to provide first aid, CPR and AED training;
Ability to maintain a variety of records and reports accurately and neatly;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions;
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
Strong organizational skills;
Initiative and resourcefulness;
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Job Qualifications
Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience as a certified athletic trainer.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
National Athletic Training Association Certification (NATABOC)
NYS Athletic Training License
CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor Certification
