Independent School District 831 DBA Forest Lake Public School District Chinese Elementary Teacher in Scandia, Minnesota

This teacher is responsible for developing and teaching curriculum and materials using engaging and age-appropriate instructional strategies based on best practices of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. Will infuse international-mindedness into the curriculum on a continual basis by incorporating hands-on learning activities into daily instruction. Must conduct classroom instruction in English and Mandarin Chinese. Specific duties include: Developing and implementing Mandarin Chinese language and multicultural curriculum, utilizing the best immersion teaching practices to help ensure that our students develop both a deep understanding of content and their communication ability in a second language; Utilizing Responsive Classroom practices to help students develop the needed social skills that will allow them to function in our society as a productive member; Analyzing, designing, and preparing course objectives and outlines according to existing state and school curriculum guidelines and requirements; Maintaining knowledge of current and emerging trends, procedures and evaluation processes in language acquisition (for language and immersion teachers); Evaluating student performance and taking into account language aptitude, grade level, class size, and related factors; Adapting the curriculum to meet the need of classes and individuals; Collaborating with teachers, program specialists, teacher mentors, coordinators, directors and other staff; Contributing to the school s ongoing efforts to integrate multicultural programming in the curriculum to address the needs of our increasingly diverse student body; Communicating closely and encouraging parental involvement regarding program goals, classroom activities, homework, school functions and student progress; Participating in regular planning and staff development; and participating in professional development deemed important to the school and/or to individual teachers; Creating a safe classroom environment.
