Schroeder-Manatee Ranch Water Taxi Captain in Sarasota, Florida

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Water Taxi Captain will captain the water taxi, perform water taxi inspections and maintenance. This is not only a captain role but a customer service-oriented position that requires stand up individuals who are eager to please and assist patrons. Must be a motivated people person with a pleasant, patient, and friendly attitude.

WORK SCHEDULE: The position requires a flexible work schedule with weekends and evenings shifts, with variable hours subject to change as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Transport customers between the Waterside Commercial Dock and residential docks following a pre-planned route and schedule.

  • From time to time, provide special event transport.

  • Captain boat safely, carefully and in compliance with Coast Guard and Lakewood Ranch Stewardship District rules and policies.

  • Maintain a clean boat to uphold the high standards of Lakewood Ranch (sweep and empty trash, wash boat as needed).

  • Stock boat with safety supplies to ensure customer comfort and safety.

  • Ensure boat is properly fueled and maintained.

  • Perform pre and post trip inspections to ensure boat can be operated safely and within Coast Guard regulations.

  • Report problems with boat, safety equipment, marina, lake, and docks to Lead Water Taxi Captain or Executive Director.

  • Work with patrons of all ages.

  • Assist with other duties that support marina and water taxi efforts.

  • Maintain a clean marina office.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Must have and maintain a US Coast Guard 25-ton (minimum) Masters License.

  • General knowledge of Coast Guard regulations, requirements, and safety regulations.

  • Extensive knowledge of safe boating practices.

  • General knowledge of boats, boat motors, and tools, including their uses and maintenance.

  • Must conduct oneself in a professional and courteous manner.

  • Must comply with the organizations Drug and Alcohol Policy.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and make independent decisions in accordance with established department policies and procedures.

  • Must possess strong problem-solving skills.

  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to use computers and mobile devices.

  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work primarily performed in the outdoor environment, exposed to hot, cold, damp and dirty conditions.
