Robert Half Payroll Specialist in Santa Maria, California

Description

Responsibilities:

  • Gather and verify timesheets for accurate payroll processing.

  • Process all payroll changes including but not limited to new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.

  • Calculate correct amounts for incomes, deductions, and benefits.

  • Resolve payroll discrepancies and answer any employee payroll queries.

  • Prepare and submit payroll reports to management as needed.

  • Ensure all payroll procedures comply with federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Maintain knowledge of current payroll tax requirements and relevant laws associated with the payment of employees.

  • Coordinate with the HR department to synchronize payroll with company policies and changes.

    Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist in a comparable industry.

  • Extensive knowledge of certified payroll processes and requirements.

  • Familiarity with prevailing wage computations, and the Fair Labor Standards Act.

  • Experience with payroll software such as ADP, QuickBooks, or similar systems.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially in Excel for payroll processing and reporting.

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll and tax regulations.

  • Excellent numerical aptitude and attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll information.

  • Strong communication skills to interact with employees and management about payroll matters effectively.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

  • Possession of a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credential from the American Payroll Association is highly preferred.

  • A clear understanding of construction industry's unique payroll issues such as union dues, apprenticeship tiers, and various trades on a single payroll.

  • Ability to handle various projects and deadlines simultaneously.
