Position Summary

The Systems Engineer plays a pivotal role in providing technical leadership for the development and implementation of service and repair processes tailored for subsystems of the capital system, ensuring alignment with cost, performance, and customer satisfaction goals. Their primary responsibilities include collaborating with R&D and Manufacturing, developing comprehensive repair instructions and documentation, providing and executing technical support, driving or supporting service center validation, monitoring service performance, implementing improvement programs, and serving as a subject matter expert. Additionally, the Systems Engineer will execute maintenance operations at the capital system, providing troubleshooting and root cause support to R&D and other stakeholders. This role is critical for service and repair operations as it ensures efficient functioning of capital equipment, drives cost-effective operations, monitors performance, recommends improvements, achieves customer satisfaction objectives, and maintains product integrity. The Systems Engineer's technical expertise and leadership optimize processes, address technical issues, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and contribute significantly to overall operational success.

Responsibilities

Under general direction and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position will:

  • Technical Expertise and Support:

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for assigned Service & Repair area, mentoring junior engineers and technicians.

  • Provide technical support to R&D, Manufacturing, customers, and Ottava service lines.

  • Apply diverse engineering knowledge and statistical techniques to enhance processes.

  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting capital system and subsystems. Execute service operations at the capital system and serve as an SME for subsystem issues in the assigned area.

  • Process Development and Improvement:

  • Work closely with R&D and Manufacturing to identify service repair requirements for new products, ensuring cost-effective service operations.

  • Develop comprehensive repair instructions, manuals, and documentation to support the service business.

  • Drive or support the validation of authorized service centers.

  • Monitor service performance, analyze results, and recommend product and service process improvements.

  • Implement programs to achieve customer satisfaction objectives.

  • Identify technical tasks, risks, and opportunities, providing estimates of resources and budgets.

  • Determine the need for specialized equipment and facilities, optimizing project efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Collect data to evaluate project infrastructure and compliance with performance measures.

  • Develop corrective and preventive actions to ensure project success within budgets.

  • Recommend cost reduction strategies and initiate corrective actions.

  • Analyze equipment histories to address repetitive failures and revise procedures accordingly.

  • Coordinate tactical maintenance and process improvement opportunities.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of control plans for new projects.

  • Generate maintenance reports and survey best practices within the responsibility area.

  • Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Coordinate activities with internal and external stakeholders, leading engineering assignments to completion.

  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures.

  • Monitor development and production processes, identifying areas for improvement.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelors degree in Engineering is required. Degree in Mechanical or Systems Engineering is preferred.

  • Minimum of 4 years experience applying engineering/business principles to a broad range of assignments is required. Systems Engineering experience preferred.

  • Experience with Design for Serviceability throughout New Product Development process is preferred.

  • Experience in the medical device industry is preferred.

  • Strong communication, influencing, and partnering skills are required.

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma or Process Improvement methodologies, or Lean Manufacturing Principals is preferred.

  • Ability to plan, conduct, and direct complicated engineering/business projects to completion, and support service responsibilities for complex products is required.

  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment is required.

  • The ability to make effective management-level presentations, write formal reports concerning both technical and business issues, and prepare project plans is required.

  • Negotiating/Influencing skills are preferred.

  • Knowledge of Project Management Tools is a plus.

  • Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) & ISO 13485 is a plus.

  • Experience with Process Development, and Validation of Manufacturing/Assembly/Service and Repair Processes is preferred.

  • Experience leading outside vendors and suppliers is preferred.

  • Experience solving technical service or manufacturing issues is preferred.

  • Six Sigma Certification is a plus.

  • Experience with Depot Service and Repair activities is a plus.

  • Experience with Field Service and Repair activities is a plus.

  • Robotics experience is a plus.

  • Assembly equipment Design Experience is a plus.

  • May coordinate and direct activities of other technical support staff and may be responsible for delegation of their assignments.

  • Up to 10% business travel may be required.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $89,000 to $140,185.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporations performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Companys discretion on an individual basis.

  • Vacation up to 120 hours per calendar year.

  • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington up to 56 hours per calendar year.

  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays up to 13 days per calendar year.

  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year.
