Amazon Senior Program Manager, Marginal Abatement Cost Curves, Worldwide Operations Sustainability in Santa Clara, California

Amazon’s Worldwide Operations Sustainability (WWOS) team is hiring a senior program manager to maintain analysis of long-term marginal abatement cost curves for sustainable supply chain technologies and integrate these considerations into our planning and investment mechanisms. The ideal candidate has a techno-economic background with experience evaluating nascent supply chains and climate technology. We seek a candidate who understands the latest industry trends and projections for sustainable technologies across transportation, buildings and packaging sectors. This role will partner with finance and business leaders within Amazon ops to assess sustainable technology investment opportunities among carbon projections and business plans. This role is responsible for establishing a decision-making mechanism on large-scale sustainable investments to close gaps to achieve net zero emissions by 2040.
Earning trust with operations stakeholders and influencing without authority is essential to success for this position. In addition to analytical strengths, the role requires strong written and verbal communication, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration skills. The candidate needs the ability to translate data-driven insights into long-term investment recommendations for decarbonization technologies

Key job responsibilities
Maintain forward looking projection of low carbon supply chains including their installed production capacity and marginal abatement cost curves over the next 20 years to inform investment decision-making.
Regularly update Amazon's senior leadership on the technological, financial, policy, and innovation levers that will drive cost curves and supply chains for low carbon solutions in commercial industries such as commercial transportation, building construction, fuels, aviation, and maritime shipping.
Identify scalable solutions that help close gaps to meeting Amazon’s commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Amazon operations teams across global regions to develop and scale mechanisms for long-term carbon emissions forecasts and decarbonization strategies.
Track progress towards sustainability goals, ensuring alignment and coordination of efforts across diverse operations businesses.
Establish robust reporting mechanisms for senior leadership (directors and VPs) to monitor progress.
Drive stakeholder education and awareness of sustainability initiatives through effective communication mechanisms.
A day in the life
This role is a deeply analytical leader who is passionate about influencing through a cross-functional group of stakeholders while being willing to roll up their sleeves to deliver results. A day in this role will include deep diving investment opportunities for low carbon supply chains, updating marginal abatement cost curve projections, influencing finance and operations leader investment decisions through data insights, and identifying new opportunities to drive deeper decarbonization. You will be at the forefront of influencing Amazon's decarbonization trajectory, leveraging your skills to shape the future of sustainable technology investments.
About the team
Worldwide Operations Sustainability (WWOS) sets the vision and strategy for sustainability within Amazon ops, including the overarching strategy and interim targets to achieve the Climate Pledge by 2040, and topics that extend beyond decarbonization. WWOS centrally coordinates strategy across Operations in all regions, particularly on topics that transcend business unit boundaries. The mission of WWOS is to accelerate outcomes for key decisions, identify the right stakeholders to make decisions, and provide central guidance for resource allocation to drive our path for The Climate Pledge.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
5+ years of program or project management experience
2+ years of developing program strategies and plans, diving execution, and influencing senior stakeholders experience
Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
Experience in complex problem solving, and working in a tight schedule environment
Experience working in a matrixed organization
Experience working cross functionally with non-tech teams
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree
3+ years of communicating with and presenting to executive and senior audiences experience
Economics degree or equivalent
Techno-economic background with experience evaluating nascent supply chains and climate technology
Experience business forecasting or carbon emissions accounting

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $104,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
