FST Technical Services Design Manager in Santa Clara, California
Job Description:
Design Managers are responsible for the design and engineering of the clients major manufacturing and cleanroom projects. This is a global role which requires extensive coordination to work with teams in Arizona, Ireland, Israel, and other sites around the world. CDM’s must work in parallel with factory, operations, and supply chain partners to deliver some of the most technically challenging projects in the world with strict schedule and cost constraints. This includes oversight on the design process, schedule, finances, and deliverables.
What CDM’s do:
Build strong relationships with AE’s, Trades, Other Consultants, and Clients.
Manage the design process and AE’s overall performance to ensure contractual obligations for design are successfully met.
Provide daily and weekly design metrics that measure program wide risks as well as make recommendations to improve underperforming areas of design.
Provide scope forecasts for upcoming work based on factory needs.
Identify and escalate design constraints to mitigate issues that impact schedule or cost for Global projects before they occur.
Recommend and develop system controls to automate and create greater efficiencies.
Lead coordination meetings with Industrial engineers to identify scope needs and gaps.
Lead daily meetings with AE’s to review missed milestones for package out.
Provide AE allocation leveling recommendations for incoming design work based on factory needs.
Serve as the Owners’ representative to provide technical guidance and issue resolution to AE’s.
Identify and provide estimates/savings for engineering changes.
Extensive reviews of project schedules around the globe to ensure accurate and timely design package creation for construction needs.
Generate worldwide data model analyses for multiple high-volume manufacturing projects for design.
Produce forecast budgets for new projects at multiple client sites.
Review and approve AE billings as well as maintain historical cost records.
Lead weekly finance review meetings with AE’s and client.
Be able to provide quick turnaround for AD-HOC requests from clients and upper management.
Extra Tasks:
Provide weekly construction metrics that measure program wide risks as well as make recommendations to improve underperforming areas of construction for TI managers.
Monitor quantity surveying progress for reconciliation risks as well as forecast upcoming scope to determine client needs are met.
Review multiple schedules for the Oregon location to trend progresses and identify risks.
Work with quantity surveying team to identify priorities for reconciliation.
Perform high overview of each subcontractor to ensure Bill of Quantities (BOQ’s) are being submitted in a timely manner along with ensuring Quantity Surveyors are reconciling open BOQ’s in a timely manner.
Ensure old contracts are closed out in a timely manner for each subcontractor.
Coordinate with subcontractors and AE’s to implement engineering changes and cost savings.
Perform cost estimates for design changes and evaluate cost savings at a program scale.
Requirements:
In depth understanding of Primavera P6 to evaluate global project schedules.
Ability to analyze vast amounts of data recorded in SQL, Access, Excel, and other databases in addition to providing program recommendations to optimize data collection.
A keen eye to detail for client publications that reach upper management.
Capacity to adapt to a fast-changing environment based on client needs.
Expert data visualizations to help determine program decisions.
Strong business acumen and the ability to provide management coverage for the client.
Strong interpersonal communication skills coupled with the ability to network and leverage relationships to effectively solve problems.
Fundamental understanding of finance, scheduling, data analysis, program management, project management, and design management.
Ability to work independently with minimal guidance in an ambiguous environment.
Drive to have continuous improvement in line with lean methodologies for databases and matrices.
