BeiGene Senior Director, Global Congresses and Meetings in San Mateo, California
General Description:
Reporting to the VP of Global Business Operations, the Senior Director, Global Congresses and Meetings will lead a team of congress and events professionals and provide strategic support to BeiGene as a member of the Global Commercial Strategy and Operations team.
The role provides an opportunity to shape and lead the BeiGene Global Congress and Meetings model, partnering across the organization for a fast-growing business that is preparing for several planned oncology product launches in the US and beyond (ex-China). This individual will lead the team responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and oversight of core international and regional congresses, conferences, and events. This role requires a dynamic leader with a proven track record in event management, cross-functional collaboration, and stakeholder engagement. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills and a passion for creating impactful experiences that align with our organizational goals. Accountable for all pre-, peri-, and post-congress/meetings activities across the portfolio
The main areas of responsibilities include the following:
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement a global strategy for congresses and events that aligns with the organization’s overarching objectives and growth goals.
Identify key opportunities for global engagement through events, conferences, and partnerships.
Team Management:
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of event professionals across various regions.
Foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, and accountability within the team.
Event Planning and Execution:
Oversee the planning, organization, and execution of high-profile congresses and events on a global scale, ensuring exceptional attendee experiences.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including medical affairs, marketing, sales, and communications to ensure cohesive messaging and branding for events.
Drive integrated cross-functional strategic approach to BeiGene engagement at congresses and association leadership to align with portfolio planning and pipeline prioritization
Budget Management & Resource Allocation:
Develop, manage, and optimize budgets for global events, ensuring financial sustainability and adherence to organizational standards.
Analyze cost-effectiveness and ROI of events, making strategic recommendations for improvements.
Deliver transparency reporting on financial excellence.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including physicians/KOLs, speakers, and other external and internal partners to enhance the quality and reach of events.
Act as the primary point of contact for executive leadership regarding event strategy and outcomes.
Market Analysis and Trends:
Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging technologies in event management to drive innovation and improve event offerings.
Utilize data and feedback to continuously enhance the event experience and identify areas for growth.
Compliance and Risk Management:
In collaboration with Compliance, Legal, and Corporate Affairs s/he/they will ensure that all activities are conducted in a compliant manner with BeiGene policies, procedures, and local regulatory/legal requirements, company policies and code of conduct.
Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with large-scale events.
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s degree (required) / advanced degree in science, business, and/or Healthcare industry experience strongly preferred
Qualifications and Experience:
BA/BS Degeree with 15 years of experience within the pharmaceutical / biotech Industry or healthcare related association/society experience (strong preference for Hematology experience)
Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) strongly preferred
Must have strong business acumen, ability to interface with senior leaders to make trade-off decisions and navigate through budget/resource constraints to deliver on business priorities to support existing product portfolio and launches of new products into the marketplace
Proven experience establishing strategic direction/vision for an organization, and proven ability to implement while taking calculated risks
Strong project management skills and ability to work effectively with cross- functional teams including Commercial (Sales and Marketing), Medical Affairs, Corporate Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Legal, Compliance and Government Affairs
Strong collaboration, interpersonal, communication, strategic agility, and negotiation skills
Demonstrated ability to drive and execute on a strategic congress and meetings strategy in support of a global operating model
Skillfully able to appropriately challenge status quo, ensuring decisions and assumptions are based on best available information including KPIs
Inspire and influence others with/without formal authority
As a people manager, provide effective performance management, coaching and development
Must be able to innovate, analyze and solve problems with minimal supervision and strong attention to detail and customer-oriented mentality
Experience in managing relationships with vendor suppliers, creative agencies, and service providers to deliver stakeholder-focused services required
Effective communication, strong matrix leadership management, and global enterprise mindset
Travel is required for this role
