Vistra Distributed Control System (DCS) Technician - Hays Power Plant in San Marcos, Texas

Job Summary

This position is responsible for supporting the safe, regulatory compliant, and efficient operation of a 1,000 megawatt combined cycle plant, utilizing four (4) GE/Alstom GT24 1x1 Gas Turbine Combined Cycle Generating Units.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities :

•Evaluate, maintain, and repair electrical equipment & controls, relay protection schemes, electrical monitoring equipment, pneumatic controls, valve operators and controls, ignition systems, various operating gauges, instruments, PLC’s and alarms. Familiar with logic schematics.

•Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair plant electronic, pneumatic systems, analyzers, facility computers, process control equipment and instrumentation.

•Familiar with the use of computer-based trending tools.

•Perform trouble-shooting activities on all plant DCS-controlled equipment. Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose problems in systems, read and interpret online diagrams, electrical protection scheme, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and vendor service manuals.

•Participate in major maintenance projects, including equipment overhauls and removal and replacement of major units and parts. Inspects and monitors work of third-party contractors during major equipment repair or installation.

•Must be able to frequently climb ladders; enter confined spaces; climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways at elevations of 80 feet and more; crawl to the through confined areas; correctly wear and work using self-contained breathing apparatus

•On-call support is required, both remote and onsite.

•The position may include light travel for emergent support of other sites.

Skill Requirements, Education, and Experience :

•Five (5) plus years maintaining and updating Distributed Control System Hardware, Network, Data Historians, and Logic. ABB Advant experience preferred.

•High school graduate or equivalent,

•Experience gained through college degree programs, trade school, related military service training programs, or technical training school programs and/or certifications is applicable to some of the skills listed

•Additional professional training preferred.

•Minimum of five years maintenance experience in power generation facilities or similar industrial facilities and field preferred.

•Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.

•Must provide positive influence to the maintenance, operations, and management team.

•Working knowledge of CMMS. Familiarity with Maximo preferred

•Additional experience with machinery repair and control systems preferred.
