Microsoft Corporation Principal Technical Program Manager - Azure Storage Platform in San Jose, California
Are you passionate about cloud computing, large scale distributed systems and being on the forefront of driving technology innovations at massive scale? The Microsoft Azure Storage Platform team is responsible for defining, building and deploying the foundational platforms hosting Azure’s Storage IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service). In this role, you will work with a team of Product Managers, engineers, and business leaders to drive innovations in storage technologies for all future generations of Azure Storage platforms spanning SSD (solid-state drive), HDD (hard disk drive) and offload technologies. This is a unique and highly visible role with large scope that will require a combination of technical acumen, business analysis, and industry leadership to identify and productize new server and storage technologies for future generations of Microsoft Storage platforms.
You will be responsible for understanding system and component level requirements, identifying new technologies, analyzing business opportunities, and working across teams to formalize platform roadmap and execution plans. You will have the opportunity to recommend business investments in a range of technical areas, integrate with multiple partner teams inside Microsoft Azure as well as across the company.

Responsibilities
Understanding of servers system design including storage technologies such as JBOF (Just a Bunch Of Flash), JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks), SAS (Serial Attached SCSI), PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express), networking and associated technologies/trends.
Ability to partner with software and hardware teams to design complex technical solutions across feature areas and make data-driven recommendations based on identified risks.
Strong analytical skills and pragmatic technical judgment to assess and make the right decisions
Ability to define roadmap, perform financial modeling, and market analysis for the recommended HW platform using performance, features, cost, and time-to-market tradeoffs
Ability to design technical solutions across feature areas and understanding complex software stack
Experience in presenting plans and building consensus with senior technical leaders
Collaboration skills with the ability to influence and drive change across groups both within Microsoft and external technology providers
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development.
OR equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
5+ years experience with communicating clear, organized program plans, status information, and collaborating in written and live forums to achieve results with large, complex sets of stakeholders.
5+ years of experience in all phases of hardware development (server, enterprise, consumer or other).
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional/Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis,
OR product development.
OR equivalent experience.
8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
