Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated MEP Department Engineering Team Manager to lead our engineering team in San Jose, CA. This role is pivotal in overseeing the mechanical design engineering functions of our department, ensuring the delivery of accurate and competitive designs and documentation. As the Engineering Manager, you will mentor and guide the engineering team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and customer focus.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of building mechanical systems and a comprehensive understanding of the entire project lifecycle—from engineering to completion. You will play a key role in identifying potential design challenges, driving quality outcomes, and delivering projects competitively while prioritizing exceptional customer service and experience. This position reports directly to the Sales and Preconstruction Manager for the MEP department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Mentorship: Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to the project engineering team, including conducting regular one-on-one meetings to foster professional growth.

  • Quality Assurance: Oversee the engineering standards library and ensure the quality and consistency of engineering deliverables.

  • Resource Management: Manage manpower allocation, engineer workload, and future workforce planning to support growth or downsizing as needed.

  • Financial Oversight: Analyze team-related direct and indirect costs to promote financial accountability and effective time management.

  • Project Planning and Workflow: Maintain progress reports, master schedules, and planning workflows to ensure project alignment and timely delivery.

  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with managers to evaluate and enhance standards, procedures, and processes continuously.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Attend construction meetings and work closely with clients, contractors, and team members to address issues and maintain project momentum.

  • Problem Resolution: Facilitate troubleshooting and resolve project deviations or scope changes, balancing client satisfaction with financial objectives.

  • Strategic Planning: Provide input on short- and long-term strategies, goals, and directions for the department’s growth and success.

  • Relationship Building: Foster trust, loyalty, and strong relationships with internal teams and external clients, positioning the company as a preferred controls contractor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of design engineering experience.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, Revit, and AutoCAD.

  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and team collaboration skills.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.

  • Adaptable, detail-oriented, and committed to continuous improvement and integrity.

Competitive Salary : $160,000 - $180,000 per year based on experience.
