Bio-Techne Manufacturing Engineer Intern in San Jose, California

Pay rate: $20/hour

All internship positions are designed to give college students an opportunity to apply techniques learned in an academic setting while obtaining new skills. This is a paid internship offering full-time hours during the summer months. All interns are required to conclude the program by giving a formal presentation on their work. Please note that no relocation assistance is provided for the internship program.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Intern with a background in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering to join our Engineering team. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in assisting senior engineers in the setup of a new manufacturing line on the production floor. Additionally, the intern will be involved in the design of fixtures and the automation of certain features to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Manufacturing Line Setup:

  • Collaborate with senior engineers to understand the requirements and objectives of the new manufacturing line.

  • Assist in the physical setup of machinery, equipment, and systems on the production floor.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that may arise during the setup process.

2. Fixture Design:

  • Work closely with the engineering team to design fixtures that meet the production needs and quality standards.

  • Utilize CAD software to create detailed drawings and specifications for the fabrication of fixtures.

  • Iterate designs based on feedback and testing results

  1. Automation:
  • Participate in the identification of processes that can be automated to improve efficiency.

  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of automation solutions.

  • Conduct testing and validation of automated features.

4. Bill of Materials (BOM):

  • Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials for manufactured products.

  • Ensure consistency and accuracy in BOM documentation.

5. Documentation:

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of the manufacturing line setup, fixture designs, and automation processes.

  • Create user manuals and guidelines for operating the new manufacturing line.

6. Supplier Coordination:

  • Work closely with suppliers to develop packaging solutions for consumables.

Qualifications

Program Requirements :

  • Must be a currently enrolled student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the internship

  • Must have completed (at minimum) the sophomore year of college

  • Must have a current GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Must be able to work full-time during the duration of the internship program

Experience Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and principles.

  • Proficiency in CAD software for fixture design.

  • Basic knowledge of automation technologies and programming.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Detail-oriented with a problem-solving mindset.
