The Hartford Staff Attorney/Senior Staff Attorney, Workers' Compensation in San Francisco, California

The Hartford currently has an in-house remote work opportunity for a Workers Compensation Senior or Staff Attorney. This individual shall handle matters throughout Northern California (San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose and occasionally Stockton and Sacramento). Our selected candidate will ideally be located within the Bay Area. Our in-house, remote work opportunity is well-suited for an experienced Attorney who is dedicated to the practice of law and committed to excellent customer service!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients• Prepare petitions, objections, answers, correspondence to AMEs/QMEs, discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies with autonomy• Provide effective, substantive and timely reporting, communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims on legal and factual issues.• Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures• Provide prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases• Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, hearings, and arbitrations.• Research, draft, file and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients.• Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain high level of professional expertise

QUALIFICATIONS:

Note This position can be filed as an Attorney or Staff Attorney commensurate with a candidate's experience. Qualified Staff Attorney candidates will hold the following qualifications:

  • JD from accredited law school and license to practice in California

  • Minimum of 3 years of legal practice experience handling Workers' Compensation defense files

  • Trial experience strongly preferred

  • Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude

  • Excellent legal research and writing skills

  • Strong MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!

  • Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills

  • Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required

    Qualified Senior Staff Attorney candidates will possess the following requirements:

  • Minimum of 7 years of legal practice experience handling Workers’ Compensation defense files

  • JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of California

  • Trial experience is preferred

  • Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude

  • Excellent legal research and writing skills

  • Strong MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)

  • Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!

  • Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills

  • Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$115,120 - $172,680
