The Financial Accounting team at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Sr. Accountant to join their team. The Financial Accounting team is responsible for ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the Bank's financial statements and the delivery of timely, accurate, and reliable financial information to internal and external customers. Financial Accounting administers accounting policy, monitors for compliance, and provides direction and guidance on accounting-related matters to other areas of the organization.

What you'll do:

  • Manage and report on high priority projects ensuring regular updates to management and key stakeholders; provide consultation to business partners to ensure proper accounting treatment on capital projects

  • Record and track Bank fixed assets, prepare related accounting entries and financial reports, and provide asset accounting guidance to business partners

  • Record GL journal entries; ensure GL accounts are reviewed and reconciled in accordance with accounting policies

  • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including annual financial statements and footnote disclosures

  • Analyze and interpret financial data; present results to management and key stakeholders

  • Draft, implement, and monitor accounting policies and/or accounting policy changes

  • Ensure accounting processes are in compliance with the Bank’s internal controls; support the department’s SOX requirements through the COSO framework

  • Respond to inquiries from internal & external auditors, Federal Reserve Board of Governors, and other business stakeholders

  • Prepare ad-hoc reports for management and key stakeholders

  • Identify and implement operational improvement opportunities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams; participate on project teams/workgroups (local and across the Federal Reserve System)

Required Experience + Traits:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field

  • 5+ years of accounting experience

  • Project accounting and/or project management experience

  • Fixed asset accounting and capitalized labor (software development, construction)

  • Experience with Workday or other ERP software applications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrate an understanding of financial reporting and general ledger accounting; strong understanding of U.S. GAAP

  • Work effectively under pressure with strong time management skills

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio) and Adobe Acrobat

  • Ability to streamline tasks through process improvement and automation

  • Self-starter with a high degree of initiative and sound judgment who can propose recommendations for solutions and resolve issues with minimal guidance or supervision

Desired:

  • Tax accounting (specifically, as it relates to CA business property statement form 571-L)

  • Accounting certifications

  • Financial statement analysis including monthly, quarterly, annual variances

  • Prior experience with SOX/COSO internal control framework

  • Prior experience preparing annual financial statements and footnotes

  • Workday, Workiva, Power BI and/or Tableau

Base Salary Range: Min: $87,100.00 - Mid: $113,100.00 - Max: $139,200.00 (Location: San Francisco)

Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
