Lyft Senior Technical Program Manager - Infrastructure in San Francisco, California

Senior Technical Program Managers at Lyft drive cross-functional initiatives, leveraging strong leadership, planning, communication, and collaboration skills. Our TPMs are technically strong with software engineering or systems engineering experience. They are problem solvers who make things happen around them by setting clear goals and inspiring teams to deliver impactful initiatives such as improving our cloud spend efficiency, modernizing Lyft’s compute infrastructure, or improving our incident response.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Program Manager with a passion for developer experience and productivity coupled with an analytical mindset. In this role, your mission will be to simplify and accelerate the software development experience through close partnerships across Lyft Infrastructure and Lyft Engineering. Your first project will be to lead our renewed “Boost Developer Productivity” initiative with the objectives of increasing quantity and speed of developer iterations while reducing iteration toil and empowering Lyft Engineering teams to discover code health and developer productivity improvements in their code.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Infrastructure leadership to define Lyft’s developer productivity story through quantitative and qualitative methods using imperfect metrics

  • Own upkeep of developer productivity metrics and dashboards, as well as ongoing deep dive analysis and reporting of actionable learnings to drive developer productivity improvements

  • Level up Infrastructure’s customer engagement and communication strategy

  • Lead iterative delivery of strategic cross-functional initiatives from concept to ship, through focus, transparency, communication, visibility, and accountability

  • Create strong relationships across Lyft engineering teams, creating feedback loops to surface customer pain points

  • Leverage deep technical expertise with large-scale, distributed 24x7 production systems to build comprehensive plans, to identify risks, and to ensure smooth project launches with a goal of delighting customers

Experience:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience Technical Program Management and Engineering or Product Management experience

  • Data Analysis experience including experience in SQL - able to write efficient queries on large data sets and derive actionable insights

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver complex projects iteratively with multiple dependencies and constraints, in a highly dynamic and agile environment

  • Proven ability to operate effectively and autonomously across multiple teams in situations of extreme ambiguity, with only high-level direction

  • Experience building roadmaps, release plans, project plans with a thorough understanding of dependency management

  • Able to communicate highly technical problems and solutions at all levels from engineer to partner to C-level executives

  • Able to influence, negotiate and inspire others in a matrixed environment. Excellent organization, planning skills, and attention to detail

  • Experience compiling and presenting business & technology options, backed by data & experimentation, to decision makers

  • At least two years of software engineering, data engineering/science, or systems engineering experience

  • Bonus: Familiar with DORA (https://cloud.google.com/blog/products/devops-sre/using-the-four-keys-to-measure-your-devops-performance) , SPACE (https://queue.acm.org/detail.cfm?id=3454124) , and/or other Developer Productivity measurement frameworks and topics

  • Bonus: Familiarity with Business Intelligence tools such Tableau and Mode, or similar

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesday and Thursdays. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.

The expected range of pay for this position in the San Francisco area is $144,000 - $180,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
