GigaGen, a subsidiary of Grifols, discovers and develops next-generation recombinant antibody therapeutics. Our core technology utilizes a microfluidic droplet system to capture and immortalize diverse immune repertoires, which can then be mined for exceptional monoclonals or enriched and used as high-potency polyclonal therapeutics. Our preclinical pipeline includes several recombinant polyclonal products for infectious diseases and a monoclonal antibody with a unique mechanism for oncology, which is entering the clinic.
We are seeking an innovative and motivated Senior Scientist II to develop and implement novel capabilities and assays (in particular those related to virology targets) to functionally characterize our therapeutic antibody drug candidates, and to help spearhead projects to continually improve and expand upon our internal capabilities.
Primary Responsibilities:
Developing antigen expression systems to created target-expressing cell lines and pseudoviruses.
Designing and performing in vitro viral infection functional assays
Analyzing data and discussing results at internal and external meetings
Brainstorming and troubleshooting research projects with other scientists
Researching the literature to devise novel application ideas
Writing protocols for new capabilities and training other technical staff
Assisting in data generation, curation, and writing for publications
Mentoring other staff in proper lab skills, experiment design, and data analysis
Identifying and evaluating external vendors
Additional Responsibilities, Skills & Requirements:
Bachelor with 10 years of experience or Masters with 8+ years of experience or PhD. with 5+ years of experience
Understanding of pre-clinical and clinical aspects of viral infection and "at the bench skills" to translate those concepts into laboratory techniques
Experience with developing functional in vitro viral neutralization assays including pseudovirus engineering and target cell line development
Strong technical foundation in molecular virology and cell biology
Record of scientific achievement and proficiency in advanced biochemical, cellular, and/or molecular techniques
Skills in one or more of the following areas is required: mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, protein engineering, high-throughput systems
Strong scientific understanding and logical thinking
Technical writing skills and experience authoring manuscripts
Comfort in designing experiments from scratch and thinking creatively
Ability to work independently and prioritize work across multiple projects
Experience leading a team and managing direct reports

The estimated pay scale for the Senior Scientist II, (Virology Department) role based in San Carlos, California is $140,000.00-$180,000.00 per year. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in the company bonus pool. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data.
