Under general direction, works with engineers and drafting personnel in the areas of civil, electrical, mechanical, or structural engineering.  This position supervises other personnel including clerical and technical staff, such as 5364 Engineering Associate I and 5362 Engineering Assistant classifications. This position is based in Moccasin, CA. 

Essential Functions:

  1. Prepares computer aided drawings and designs, and works with engineering personnel in the preparation of engineering drawings and technical documents related to water and hydropower structures such as dams, tunnels, penstocks, pipelines, powerhouses, substations, structures/offices, high and low voltage equipment, high pressure hydraulic controls, instrumentation and controls, and roads/bridges. The 5366 Engineering Associate II uses manual and computer-aided drawing equipment (AutoCAD), and geographical information systems.    

  2. Performs and checks basic engineering calculations in connection with engineering drawings and technical documents.

  3. Collects and verifies post-construction/post-maintenance field data through research and investigation, and in collaboration with other engineering workgroups, to maintain Station Drawings’ representation of as-is conditions at water transmission stations and power stations

  4. Collects and verifies post-construction as-builts through research and investigation, and in collaboration with other engineering workgroups, to record accurate as-constructed contract records in Engineering Records. 

  5. Prepares technical reports and land engineering records such as survey site assessment, construction inspection, pavement management, excavation coordination, and permit tracking.

  6. Prepares project construction bills of materials and quantity lists.

  7. Prepares, manages, and maintains records and documents including logs and databases. Plays elemental role in document preservation and proper indexing of documents in utilized databases.

  8. Plans, assigns, monitors, and evaluates the work of subordinate personnel; includes

    completing performance evaluations.

  9. Drives a vehicle to work sites and meetings as needed.

  10. Develops and implements procedures and trains staff to improve work products and output. 

  11. Assists in the processing and management of construction and procurement contracts.

  12. Performs CAD (Computer-aided Design) management duties, including setting and enforcing standards.

     

Minimum Qualifications:

Six (6) years of verifiable civil (including structural or transportation), mechanical, or electrical technical engineering drafting experience using CAD or BIM systems to prepare engineering drawings and other engineering graphic material, including experience in engineering design, detailing, construction documentation, coordination and review , document controls, and field inspection of construction projects, of which at least two (2) years must have been in a position(s) with duties comparable to those of Class 5364 Engineering Associate I.

License: Possession of a valid California Driver License

Substitution:

Additional education with major coursework in Computer Aided Design and Drafting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one (1) year; OR

Possession of a current and valid Autodesk Certified Professional & Expert certificate may be substituted for the two (2) of the six (6) years of verified technical engineering drafting experience above.

Note: There is no substitution for the required two (2) years of work experience equivalent to a 5364 Civil Engineering Associate I.
