The Assistant Nurse Manager functions as a part of a leadership team designed to plan, organize, and control the health care process for applicable patient populations through the unit level management of assigned clinical process while assuming the responsibility and accountability for assigned shift operations. Continually works toward achieving patient satisfaction, productivity, financial and operational objectives. The Assistant Nurse Manager coordinates unit responsibilities, and supervises and assigns duties to unit staff. Reports directly to the Department Director. Responsible for directing the patient care provided and the performance of unit associates on the respective shift. Responsibilities include: the staffing and scheduling, supervision, mentoring, and clinical guidance of nursing associates on the respective unit, and fiscal, clinical, and quality improvement oversight of the daily operations of the unit. Serves as a leader in Continuous Process Improvement activities. ALL REGISTERED NURSES will render professional nursing care to patients, support medical care as directed by physicians. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of St. Mary's Medical Center. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The Assistant Nurse Manager shall support St. Mary's Medical Center's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality improvement/process improvement activities and patient satisfaction.

  • Maintains standards for professional staff behavior in the department. Provides staff with constructive feedback on performance in a timely manner. Utilizes the hospital HR policy on progressive corrective action to address staff issues not resolved. Models professional behavior and collaboration for staff. Actively creates a fair and just culture. Actively supports leadership in shared goals.

  • Seeks opportunities for staff development in a variety of aspects in the clinical setting. Assesses staff knowledge level. Identifies learning needs of staff. Coordinates education opportunities for staff and schedules appropriately. Coordinates orientation for new staff.

  • Monitors staff adherence to assignments and duties. Delegates appropriate activities to responsible staff. Uses acuity system for staffing and patient care assignments.

  • Able to effectively manage personnel relating to productivity. Flexes staff to meet census levels and productivity goals. Assigns breaks and lunches to staff and ensures compliance. Takes actions to assure staff is able to complete patient care within limits of shift. Maintains overtime approval process. Reviews and maintains supply usage.

  • Knowledgeable of all regulatory agency standards for patient and staff requirements. Provides staff education to standards. Monitors for staff compliance and adherence to requirements. Conducts or assigns monthly audits to ensure compliance.

  • Uses applicable computer programs to enhance patient and employee communication. Proficient in Care Connect, PAL. Utilize ResQ, Ceridian. Uses Outlook to manage communications with management and staff. Manages calendar for meetings and appointments. Basic ability to utilize MS Word, Excel.

  • Influences and supports staff to expand professional development in their area of practice. Assesses the learning needs of staff members and suggests resources to meet the needs. Promotes the delivery of new processes for staff and ensures compliance.

  • Responsible for staff /employee appraisal process in the department. Contributes to the evaluation of staff performance through written and verbal input. Provides direct feedback to staff regarding performance issues. Evaluations are submitted by due date.

  • Maintains communication standards in the department. Verbal and written communication is professional and respectful towards staff, physicians and all disciplines. Assures staff members demonstrate appropriate communication techniques and corrects behavior if needed. Is timely and thorough in communicating with Director regarding unit and employee issues.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least two years clinical experience within speciality unit. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated leadership abilities. Requires a minimum of one year experience in a leadership role (i.e., relief Charge Nurse).

  • ASN required, BSN preferred

  • Valid California RN

  • CT CPRBLS - AHA

  • CT ACLS - AHA

  • CT PALS - AHA

Pay Range

$73.94 - $94.39 /hour
