Northrop Grumman Staff Electronics Engineer (Electro Optical /Infrared System Analyst) in San Diego, California

Northrop GrummanAutonomous Design Center of Excellence (COE)is seekinga Staff Electronics Engineer to serve asa cross-programleader and Subject MatterExpert in the field of Electro Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) Sensor System Analysis.

The leader selected for this role will provide direct support to the Advanced Programs Director but will support efforts across multiple divisions.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Define models, predict performance and conduct design trades of advanced EO/IR/laser imaging and non-imaging sensor systems. This includes prediction of range, NIIRS, MRT, NEI performance using existing established performance models such as GIQE, MODTRAN and NV-IPM. This include the evaluation of current & evolving technologies from multiple supplies on performance predictions. Responsibilities also include evaluating the impact of installation and environmental conditions such as windows, vibration, thermal gradients and atmospheric effects. Candidate should be familiar with standard analytical tools such as Matlab, MathCAD, STK and/or Mathematica, and should be cable of using these tools to define new performance prediction models.

The selected candidate will provide overall technical strategy for EO/IR Systems, development, supplier management, integration, and ground and flight testing in accordance with the Division's long range strategic plan (LRSP) objectives; improve current architectures and synthesize architectural concepts for future solutions; provide technical direction/guidance to a multi-discipline engineering team including mentoring employees in the application of scientific principles, and ensure technical oversight on all efforts from concept to design.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology,Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and14 years of engineering experience or 12 years' experience with a Master'sDegree or9 years with a PhD.

  • Demonstratedexperience in the field of Electro Optical Infrared Sensors

  • Must have a current active in-scope DoD Top SecretSecurity Clearance with the ability to obtain Special Program Access

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in STEM or relatedtechnical discipline from an accredited university

  • Abilitytocommunicate effectively and clearly present technical solutions to seniorleadership

  • 5+ years in amanagement or technical leadership role

  • Mastery of scientific theory in the fields or EO &IR

  • Experience developing advanced technological ideas and guidingtheir development into a final product that has directly impacted the Divisionor Sector

  • Multiple patents/disclosure/relevant technical awards or externalpublications/presentation

  • Supplier Management experience

  • Demonstrated expertise in Program and Sector long range strategicplanning and cross Sector collaboration

  • Highly organized and self-driven with the ability to lead amulti-discipline engineering team to accomplishcomplex objectives
