Job Title: Shipyard Laborer
Job Description
Assists in the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of cable systems. Ensures techniques, materials, and accomplishments meet technical standards and specifications and engineering directives. Operates hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, measuring tools, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. Cleans and prepares sites, cleans up rubble and debris, and removes materials for work. Assists other trade workers as needed. Laborers load and unload equipment and carry materials to skilled workers. Removes paint and scale from ships’ metal surfaces, using hand or powered wire brushes. Conveys materials and tools to work site. Loads vehicles using hand truck or dolly. Washes trucks and other vehicles. Cleans ships, piers, drydocks, and other working areas, using broom and water hose. Opens shipping crates, using hammer and pinch bar.
