Responsibilities You will plan and manage a comprehensive safety and of occupational health program to eliminate or control the risk of injury to personnel. You will conduct safety surveys of all assigned facilities, activities, operations and equipment. You will implement the medical surveillance program, the hearing conservation program and the respiratory protection program. You will investigate mishaps involving injuries and/or material damage to determine circumstances involved and the nature of injuries and/or damages. You will conduct safety education programs including mishap prevention, and industrial hygiene practices. You will Interpret regulations, provide advice and prepare written procedures for implementation of safety prevention activities including motor vehicle mishap prevention and safe materials handling practices. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Planning, developing, and administering a Safety and Occupational Health program; AND assisting in safety and/or mishap investigations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, you may qualify based on education or equivalent combination of education and experience, as follows: Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. or Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. or Successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.
