Scripps Health Medical Assistant - Orthopedic Surgery - Torrey Pines in San Diego, California
This is a benefited, full time position generally working 8-hr day shifts Monday-Friday with start times varying between 7:30am & 8am. Hours will vary as needed. Located at Scripps Clinic Torrey Pines in La Jolla but may travel to other sites as needed. No weekends or holidays.

Your job duties:
- Rooming patients
- Checking vitals
- Assisting with procedures
- Clinic prep assisting with Provider specific protocols
- Predominantly back-office responsibilities but is expected to help with front-office duties on an as-needed basis
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe environment
- Organizes and performs patient care services that support the provider's practice
- Relaying instructions from the provider to the patient or authorized person
- Collecting patient data in person and by phone
- Documenting patient concerns, messages and care provided in the electronic medical record for the physician's review
- Administering medications specifically directed by the provider
- Scheduling of appointments and procedures
- Complete and accurate message taking
- Routing messages to the appropriate area for direction
- Order and referral entry
- Acquisition of pre-certifications
- Setting up of cases in EPIC
- Basic registration and updating of demographics
- Other duties assigned as needed
Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
- Completion of a formal Medical Assistant Program, or Medical Assistance Certification, or a minimum of two years of experience as a military corpsman
Required Certification/Registration:
- BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA)
Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
- One year of experience as a MA in an outpatient setting
- Previous experience in Orthopedic Surgery
