Actalent Histology Technician in San Diego, California
Job Title: Histology TechnicianJob Description
As a Histology Technician, you will assist in surgeries where the surgeon slices very thin tissue sections of frozen skin until they reach an unaffected area. You will then take the tissue samples to the lab and prepare the slides. This includes embedding, cutting tissue if needed, staining, and putting cover slips on slides for analysis by the pathologist. You will perform complex histological procedures using a variety of techniques such as grossing, staining, drying, and freezing to preserve and test the samples. You will prepare tissue specimens for routine and special procedures to obtain patient diagnoses. You will accession and gross tissue specimens, process specimens including embedding, cutting, staining, coverslipping, and filing. You will prepare slides of specimens using specified stains to enhance visibility under the microscope, trim tissue specimens into blocks, and fix tissue in fixing solutions or formalin. You will examine and study slides under a microscope to detect deviations from the norm and report abnormalities that may require further study. Additionally, you will record and analyze data, prepare media, chemicals, reagents, and solutions, preserve and store samples per established policies and procedures, and maintain, clean, and repair equipment and instruments as per established procedures and manufacturer’s instructions. You will also establish and monitor quality control programs and perform required quality control, maintenance, and quality assurance.
