Job Overview:

Qualcomm's Government Technologies (QGOV) division develops special products based on its wireless terrestrial and satellite communication technologies for the military, federal, local, and foreign governments. In this role as a Hardware Engineer, you will support government-sponsored research, development, integration and test of such systems, including adaptation and extension of commercial systems to novel applications and environments, as well as internal development efforts. The individual will work on a variety of projects crossing multiple disciplines from across the company to deliver timely results to Customers. You will be responsible for working closely with other engineering disciplines to design, develop, test, automate, and document communication capabilities. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential. Candidate must be willing to travel on occasion and be able to work well with others in a technical environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.

OR

Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 1+ year of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.

OR

PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field.

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of work experience with circuit design, schematic capture, component selection and PCB design.

Preferred Qualifications:

One or more of the following preferred:

  • Experience with major industry PCB design tools (Mentor Xpedition, OrCAD, or Altium PCB design tools)

  • Proven track record of effectively collaborating with CAD designers for PCB layout

  • Solid understanding of Power Integrity and Signal Integrity fundamentals

  • Ability to explain and debug common chip-to-chip interfaces used in consumer electronics, including JTAG, SPI, I2C, UART, USB, CSI/DSI, and PCIe

  • Demonstrated ability to architect board-level designs utilizing state-of-the-art mobile electronics chipsets

  • Understanding of both the first principles of common PCB board-level components as well as available offerings from major vendors (i.e. DC/DC converters, level shifters, ICs for common interfaces…)

  • Experience with debugging tools such as JTAG and lab test equipment such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, etc.

  • High-level understanding of Software Engineering principles, and ability to perform light programming in windows or linux environments, with languages such as python, C/C++, and tcl.

  • Ability to collaborate with a team through version control tools such as git and gerrit

  • Proficiency in SystemVerilog and experience with FPGA design using Xilinx Vivado is a plus

  • The ideal candidate would be a self-starter with strong initiative, discipline, motivation, and a focus on quality.

Pay range:

$93,500.00 - $156,000.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
