The Position

FUNCTION :

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, implement a training program that covers all the techniques of emergency medical care and transportation of the sick and injured within the responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Technician using content based on the State of California Emergency Medical Services Authority requirements referenced in Title 22, Division 9, Chapter 2, Article 1 of the California Administrative Code and approved by the San Diego County Emergency Medical Services.

Major Responsibilities

REQUISITE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES INCLUDE :

Knowledge of the State of California Code of Regulations Title 22 relating to EMT -1 training, certification and scope of practice and the San Diego County Office of Emergency Medical Services Policy and Procedures as related to EMT -1 practice. Bachelor’s degree with four (4) years of mobile intensive care paramedic experience; current licensure, in good standing, as a Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic for the State of California; and current certification as a BLS Instructor, ACLS Instructor and PHTLS Instructor.

Qualifications

TYPICAL DUTIES INCLUDE :

Implement a training program that covers all the techniques of emergency medical care and transportation of the sick and injured within the responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Technician.

Supervise and monitor students’ use of tools and equipment.

Observe and evaluate students’ work to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement.

Administer oral, written, or performance tests to measure progress and to evaluate training effectiveness.

Prepare reports and maintain records such as student grades, attendance rolls, and training activity details.

THE FOLLOWING MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT :

Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment (Note: The certificate must be renewed every 4 years as a condition of continuing employment);

Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer at the district’s expense (Clearance must be received prior to first day of employment); AND

Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
