Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer IINegotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant design contracts.Performs complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and assisting in transportation planning studies.Represents the district/division at technical meetings and public hearings at local, state, federal and international levels.Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.Reviews, processes and certifies project design plans developed by consulting engineers.Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents for public hearings.Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing fortransportation projects.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer IIIIn addition to the duties listed aboveTestifies at condemnation hearings and trials.Transportation Engineer IVIn addition to the duties listed aboveActs as a liaison with divisions, MPOs, cities, counties and other governmental entities concerning traffic management and traffic safety projects.Serves as liaison with the Office of the Attorney General, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), MPOs and the public concerning proposed project development and planning.Verifies project eligibility and assists with ranking projects and funding.
