* *As an Assistant Nutrition Manager, you will support our students' nutritional needs by supporting a team to prepare and serve meals in our school kitchens.  You'll gain industry knowledge and leadership skills while working with staff to maintain inventory, and support food preparation and food service in a department where there are multiple advancement opportunities.  Assistant Nutrition Managers typically enjoy work hours that coincide with the school day, allowing time with your family during school breaks, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Nutrition Manager assists Nutrition Managers with daily operations of the kitchen and substitutes for other Nutrition Managers at all levels throughout the district when they are absent from work or on leave.  Assistant Nutrition Managers are required to transfer between school kitchens to fulfill department staffing needs.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.  Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Ability to pass a physical abilities assessment
  3. Six months of job-related experience in the food service industry
  4. Utah driver's license, proof of insurability and success to reliable personal transportation
  5. Able to obtain a Food Handler's Permit within two (2) weeks of hire, a ServSafe Certificate within three (3) months of hire, and a School Nutrition Association (SNA) certificate level I within one year of employment
  6. Speak, read, write, present professionally, analyze, understand, and interpret written and verbal communications in English
  7. Ability to complete basic math computations (add, subtract, multiply & divide)

     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

These are examples of skills and experience that the best qualified candidates may have.  Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.

  1. Two or more years of job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility
  2. Experience in a supervisory role
  3. Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand

     

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Use knowledge of health standards and hazards, quantity cooking, and safety practices to follow department practices and procedures, including the proper use of food preparation equipment
  2. Assist the nutrition manager in all operational and management duties, and provide site supervision in the nutrition manager's absence
  3. Assist nutrition manager with monitoring and operating food service equipment and point of sale for multiple lines while maintaining safe operating conditions and managing a school kitchen effectively, safely, and efficiently
  4. Assist nutrition manager with budgeting, receiving of money and record keeping (e.g., mypaymentsplus.com payments, McKinney form, deposits, Free and Reduced Lunch applications, etc.) to ensure accurate accounting
  5. Assist nutrition manager with food inventory and food orders, stocking food, condiments and supplies to ensure availability of items
  6. Assist nutrition manager with monitoring kitchen and cafeteria areas to ensure safe and sanitary food service operations
  7. Assist nutrit on manager with responding to inquiries of students, staff, and the public to provide information or direction regarding serving times and the type and cost of meals while adhering to program regulations and guidelines
  8. Assist nutrition manager with collecting payments for food items and reconciling transactions to secure funds for reimbursement and balance accounts by adhering to accounting practices
  9. Correctly identify a federally reimbursable meal and appropriately categorize its food components. Communicate with students to help them select food options to meet the federally reimbursable meal standard
  10. Clean utensils, equipment and storage as well as food preparation and serving areas (e.g., sweeping, mopping, garbage removal, washing tables, etc.) to maintain safe and sanitary conditions
  11. Lead assigned personnel, student workers, and volunteers (e.g., assign tasks, check on work, work along with, etc.) to guide the individuals to perform their functions in a safe and efficient manner
  12. Prepare, arrange, and serve food and beverage items to meet mandated nutritional and projected meal requirements
  13. Substitute for Nutrition Managers throughout the district on short and long-term leave in order to ensure continued operations in district kitchens and gain experience in managing a school kitchen
  14. Use Microsoft Office Suite and data-based software to assist assigned kitchen manager with preparing documentation (e.g., Free and Reduced Lunch applications, orders, inventories, etc.) to provide written support and convey information
  15. Attend meetings as required and attend trainings for a minimum of 10 hours annually to convey and gather information required to perform functions
  16. Communicate with others (e.g., school administrators, staff, parents, students, district personnel, etc.) to present information, gather feedback, and ensure adherence to program regulations and guidelines
  17. Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders
  18. Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines
  19. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position
  20. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
  21. Speak, read, write, analyze, understand and follow written and verbal communication in English, including use of appropriate grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally and in writing.
  22. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
  23. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require th e following physical demands:  some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity.  Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing.  This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
