Job Summary

The Web Support & Usability team in University Support Services is seeking a dynamic, motivated, and creative individual to fill the role of User Experience Designer. Design aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly campus websites and web pages within a content management framework while ensuring our campus’ web presence is engaging, accessible, and aligned with the university’s goals and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and implementing new and redesigned campus websites within a content management framework.

  • Ensure designs are user-friendly, visually appealing, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines ( WCAG ) compliant, cross-browser/platform/device compatible, and meet client needs.

  • Collaborate with a UX researcher to analyze usability tests, informing designs and determining effective solutions.

  • Stay on top of internet trends and opportunities related to web design, user experiences, user interfaces, and content management.

  • Manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously to ensure on-time deliverables.

  • Provide accurate time estimates and project plans, tracking and reporting time by project.

  • Utilize task tracking software to organize, assign, manage, and report workloads.

  • Assist in managing the support queue, analyzing requests, complaints, concerns, and suggestions, ensuring prompt and appropriate follow-through.

  • Provide top-tier customer service and website support, ensuring timely completion of requests and providing quick, friendly, and comprehensive responses.

  • Engage in collaborative problem-solving to address support queue requests while contributing to the success of other team members’ projects.

  • Assist in developing templates and processes to facilitate the campus-wide rollout of products and services.

  • Collaborate with a team of UX/UI developers on campus-wide web and mobile applications.

  • Serve as a resource to web editors on best practice topics such as usability, user research and testing, information architecture, search engine optimization, web accessibility compliance, user interface design, page layout, image optimization, and writing for the web.

  • Flex your technical muscles by researching, identifying, and implementing solutions using an array of technologies and tools.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Department Specific:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Multi-Disciplinary Design, Graphic Design, Information Systems, Communication, Media Arts, or a related field (or equivalent) and at least two years of related work experience in web or UX design.

Preferences

  • Familiarity with web content management systems and designing within a template.

  • Proficiency in usability research methodologies, design thinking, information architecture, search engine optimization, accessibility, analytics, user interface design, image optimization, and writing for the web.

  • A strong online portfolio demonstrating a passion for great user experiences.

  • Demonstrated visual design and page layout skills.

  • Proficiency in developing responsive and universally accessible user interfaces.

  • Proficiency in constructing intuitive and clear information structures.

  • Familiarity with HTML , JavaScript, and CSS .

  • Strong understanding of WCAG 2.1 guidelines.

  • Ability to see a large project from beginning to end, including analysis, development, testing, QA, and delivery.

  • Proficiency in using visual design and mockup software such as Adobe XD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Figma, or Axure.

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.

  • Demonstrated communication skills in verbal, written, and visual forms.

  • Exemplary customer service skills with a friendly, outgoing, and helpful disposition.

  • Impeccable attention to detail and superb organizational skills.

  • Openness to feedback and constructive criticism.
