State of Utah - Jobs Substitute Teacher for the Deaf/Hard of in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind invites you to consider an enjoyable and gratifying employment opportunity with our school.  We are looking for caring and motivated substitute teachers to work with our Deaf/Hard of Hearing students as they cover for teachers and aides that are absent.  There are positions available in the Ogden,Salt Lake,Springville areas.  Principal Duties As a Substitute for the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing you will:

  • Teach subject matter,in the absence of regular teacher,utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education,correlated with other appropriate learning activities.
  • Develop lesson plans,adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs,and utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction.
  • Understand and use computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
  • Maintain classroom organization and discipline.
  • Establish and maintain standard of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning environment.
  • Devise and utilize techniques which accurately measure students' progress
  • Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff in academic and personal growth areas.
  • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional practices Advisory Commission.
  • Conform to school policies,including attendance,absences and evaluations.

The Ideal Candidate The Ideal Candidate will possess:

  • principles,theories,and practices of education
  • techniques and methods of teaching deaf/hard-of-hearing students
  • learning methods of deaf/hard-of-hearing students
  • good knowledge base of computers and classroom technology
  • firm knowledge and skills in classroom management and discipline
  • deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity,tact,and professionalism
  • communicate clearly and effectively
  • maintain strict confidentiality
  • professional teaching ethics
  • local,state,and federal laws that pertain to education
  • agency programs,business practices,rules,regulations and/or policies and procedures
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
