The position will be responsible for developing and implementing automation and vision inspection technology in the manufacturing of products in the Engineered Polymer Systems division. In this role they will collaborate with operation teams to identify processes that are good candidates for automating. Additionally, they will be responsible for staying abreast of new technologies and trends and identifying/introducing new technologies to the division. They will work with Business Unit Managers to manage the portfolio of projects and prioritize based on savings impact and potential for replication across all manufacturing facilities. Workswithengineeringprojectoracross-functionalteamwithinthebusinessunit;mayhaveregularcustomer/supplierinteraction.
Essential Functions: *Work closely with the Business Units to identify, assess, and prioritize opportunities to implement automated systems with the goal of improving safety, ergonomics and productivity *Design automation systems for the target operations *Manage fabrication of systems internally and with integrators as required, program and test, manage installation and run-off of the systems in the plants *Design and implement automated vision inspection systems *Provide technical assistance when issues arise; identify opportunities and develop solutions *Develop work instructions and maintenance procedures, including developing and delivering training on systems *Travel to plants, mostly in the US and Mexico, and vendor sites as required *Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. *Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in automation technology, and apply this knowledge to drive innovation. *Contribute to the strategic planning and execution of automation initiatives.
Qualifications: *Bachelor's degree (BS) (or Professional Engineer (PE) certificate) in an engineering or science technical discipline, preferably ME or EE. (MS is a plus, but is not required) *Abilitytoperformtheessentialfunctionsofthejobtypicallyacquiredthrough7to10yearsofrelatedexperience. *Has experience in designing and implementing automation systems in manufacturing, including mechatronics and collaborative robots *Experience in rubber molding and extrusion is a plus; experience in vision inspection systems is a plus *Strong understanding of computer programing relevant to automation, excellent computer proficiency including CAD *Ability to collaborate with a cross functional team at various levels of leadership spanning from shop floor operators and team leads to division staff *Creative thinking, detail oriented and adept at hands-on approach *Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple projects *Ability to effectively communicate and present status, actions, recommendations, and other...
